개인정보 처리방침
Last updated: 18 October 2026
JetDex is a small, independent app made in Milan. This policy explains what personal data JetDex collects, through the JetDex app and the jetdex.app website, why, and what you can do about it. We try to collect as little as possible.
1. Who we are
The data controller is Paolo Puglielli, an independent developer based in Milan, Italy ("JetDex", "we", "us"). You can reach us at hello@jetdex.app for anything related to your data.
2. The website and the waitlist
When you join the waitlist on jetdex.app we store:
- your email address;
- the username you choose to reserve, if any;
- your language, the country your request came from (as reported by our hosting provider), and the date you signed up;
- your invite code, who invited you (if you came from an invite link) and how many people joined with your link.
We use this only to run the waitlist: to tell you when JetDex is ready, to give you early access, to keep your username for you, and to order the line. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time by emailing us or using the unsubscribe link in our emails. We never sell your email or share it for marketing.
To stop spam and abuse, we keep a one-way hash of your IP address together with a counter for a few minutes to limit repeated sign-ups. We never store your IP address itself. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in keeping the service safe (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
The website uses no advertising, no third-party analytics and no tracking cookies. It stores your language choice and your waitlist invite code in your browser's local storage so the site remembers you; this never leaves your device unless you submit the form.
3. The JetDex app
When the app is available, it processes the following data. Some of it is required for the app to work; the rest is optional and only used if you turn the feature on.
- Account. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name (or a nickname), an email address (which may be a private relay address) and a unique account ID. You choose a public display name and username.
- Location while identifying planes. While the camera screen is open, the app uses your precise location to find aircraft near you. Your coordinates are sent to our server to look up nearby flights and are not stored with your identity beyond what is needed for that request.
- Camera, compass and motion sensors. Used on your device to work out where the phone is pointing and to spot the plane in your photo. Photos and camera frames stay on your device unless you choose to share them.
- Your catches. For each flight you catch we store the flight, the time and the approximate place where you caught it, so we can build your globe, awards and leaderboards.
- Friends and leaderboards. Your display name, username, profile picture (if you add one), catches and scores are visible to your friends, and your display name and scores may appear on city, country and global leaderboards.
- Sky Sense alerts (optional). If you opt in, the app shares a coarse, roughly one-kilometre location in the background so we can tell you when a plane is about to fly over you. You can turn this off at any time in the app or in your phone's settings.
- Notifications (optional). If you allow notifications we store a push token for your device.
- Support chat. If you message us from the app, we store your messages and reply to them.
- Diagnostics. Basic crash reports and performance data to find and fix bugs.
- Purchases. If we ever offer an optional paid tier, payments are handled by Apple or Google. We receive confirmation of your subscription status, never your card details.
Legal bases: performance of our contract with you to provide the app (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR); your consent for optional features such as background location, notifications and photos you share (Art. 6(1)(a)); and our legitimate interest in keeping the app secure and working (Art. 6(1)(f)).
4. Who we share data with
We use a few trusted providers to run JetDex. They process data only on our instructions:
- Cloudflare (website hosting, waitlist database, flight lookups);
- Supabase (accounts, catches, friends and chat data);
- Apple and Google (sign-in, push notifications, app distribution and payments);
- Expo (app updates and push notification delivery);
- an email delivery provider, only to send you waitlist and launch emails.
Flight data comes from public ADS-B sources such as adsb.lol and adsbdb. We query them by area, never with your personal data.
Some providers may process data outside the European Economic Area. When they do, we rely on the European Commission's adequacy decisions (including the EU-US Data Privacy Framework) or Standard Contractual Clauses.
5. How long we keep data
- Waitlist data: until JetDex launches and for up to 12 months after, or until you ask us to delete it, whichever comes first.
- Anti-spam IP hashes: deleted automatically within 24 hours.
- Account data and catches: for as long as you keep your account. When you delete your account, we delete your data within 30 days, except where the law requires us to keep it.
- Support messages: up to 24 months after the conversation ends.
6. Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask us to access, correct, delete, restrict or export your data, and you can object to processing based on legitimate interest. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time. Just email hello@jetdex.app. You can also delete your account directly in the app.
If you think we've handled your data wrongly, you have the right to complain to a supervisory authority. In Italy that is the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali (garanteprivacy.it), but you can also contact the authority where you live.
7. Children
JetDex is not meant for children under 14. If you are under the age required to consent to data processing in your country, please use JetDex only with a parent's or guardian's permission. If we learn that we hold data from a child without that permission, we will delete it.
8. Security
We use encryption in transit, access controls and reputable providers to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure, so if we ever learn of a breach that affects you, we will let you and the authorities know as the law requires.
9. Changes
We will update this policy as JetDex grows. If a change is significant, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. The date at the top shows the latest version.
